Do you want to get married?

Here's how to proceed if you want to get married civilly in the municipality.

Marriage-certificate

To enter into marriage in Norway, it must be assessed whether the conditions are met. This is called examination of the marriage conditions, and is done by the Tax Administration / Population Register, after which a certificate of examination is issued, if there are no obstacles to the marriage.

For those from other countries, it usually takes some time to get the document from the Norwegian Tax Administration. It often takes at least 5 - 6 weeks because they do not have a Norwegian personal identity number and this cannot be done digitally for that reason. It is important to note that the casemanager cannot help with obtaining a valid Norwegian marriage certificate, all couples must arrange this themselves. Foreign citizens may also need to be approved for marriage in their own country before they can receive a Norwegian marriage certificate from the Norwegian Tax Administration

What is important to note, and which applies to all couples, is that this document is only valid for four - 4 - months from the time it is issued by the Norwegian Tax Administration. One must therefore adjust the time of their application to the Tax Administration, so that the date of the wedding is within the applicable time period.

A valid test certificate issued in Norway is an absolute requirement

When can we get married?

No legal action will be taken or the wedding date confirmed until we have received the original marriage certificate. This must be physically delivered to us or sent by post/email.

Please note that the certificate must be valid on the day you are getting married.

We perform the wedding according to the wishes of the bride and groom as far as possible. This is to be clarified with the municipality's wedding coordinator.

Price

• Where either the bride or groom resides in Ullensvang municipality, the wedding is free.
• If both do not reside in Ullensvang municipality, the wedding costs NOK 1,100.-
• If the officiant must drive to the weddingplace, there will be an additional charge of NOK 400.-
• If the time is outside of the scheduled times, there will be an additional charge of NOK 500.-

Wedding place

Ullensvang Town Hall (in Odda). It is also possible to arrange for an outdoor wedding or the use of other premises. This will be clarified in conversation with the municipality's wedding coordinator.

What days can we get married through the year?

• Fridays - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with exceptions for statutory or agreed-upon weekends and holidays such as Christmas, Easter, May 1st and 17th.
• Every 1st Saturday of the month - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., with exceptions for New Year's Day, Easter Eve, Whitsun, May 1st and 17th.

You can make other wishes. This will be clarified in conversation with the municipality's wedding coordinator.

Wedding in the summer of 2026

Now it's getting closer to summer again and the wedding season is approaching.

Anyone who wants to get married under municipal authority, but outside of these joint days, can of course make a request for a time. It usually works out in the best possible way.

Common days for weddings

When it comes to joint days and locations, we have some new plans this year. We also want to show you Folgefonna and Agatunet, as 2 nice new places to get married in our municipality.

Those who are interested in - and want to experience   the fruit blossoms in Hardanger, and also like culture and history - can have the joy of getting married in Agatunet.

Up on Folgefonna, it's a good place for those who like glaciers, mountains and rugged nature. For other information regarding weddings, see here.

Get married at Agatunet, Folgefonna or Trolltunga?

The place is unique and has a history that goes back to the 12th century. This is an open-air museum and an original cluster farm that contains 45 protected buildings in a farm, and the oldest of them is Lagmannsstova from the year 1220. The building is the oldest courthouse and secular wooden house in the country, which has been preserved in its original place. It is an experience and a fantastic building to enter. We imagine that the wedding will be performed inside Lagmannsstova, but it can also be outside in the farm itself if someone wants. It will be a great time anyway, and good memories to take home - because this is a place you will not forget so easily.

Agatunet is idyllically located north of Odda - on the west side of Sørfjorden. And in May - among blooming fruit trees! The flowering in Hardanger is widely known and many people visit our municipality then, to experience this. The blooms only last a short time, so we hope to get a good deal on this time for the wedding !

The parking lot is close to the yard, so it won't be far to walk.

We hope and believe that you will have a fantastic day in Agatunet. We will be there between 13:00 - 18:00.

It is not allowed to consume alcohol in Agatunet, but it is possible to buy a glass of cider from Hardanger!

This is Norway's third largest glacier, and it is located in 3 different municipalities - Etne, Ullensvang and Kvinnherad. The glacier is also located in Folgefonna National Park. Up here we will take couples who want to get married near the glacier edge. You can drive up from Jondal, so this is a great opportunity if you want to get close to the glacier without walking very far. In any case, we recommend that everyone dress and wear shoes for a walk, as we want to find the best place to stand during the wedding.

We hope for sun and warm temperature, but if the weather is bad, we can move into the Welcome Center at the former Folgefonna Summer Ski Center - with the address Folgefonnvegen 1830. If you want to change and put on your wedding dress, you can do so indoors at the center. The center is located at about 1200 m above sea level, and the highest point on the glacier here is about 1600 m above sea level.

We think it will be a nice day, and the car ride up will also give you a nice experience, where you can enjoy the view of the fjord and mountains. We look forward to meeting those who want to join us on Folgefonna this day!

Everyone must get to the end of the road on their own and bring food and drinks for the day. We will be available from between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

The municipality is preparing for a wedding celebration on Trolltunga on Friday, August 21st, this year as well.

We hope for a warm and nice day, but we cannot promise you that. Everyone must therefore also take into account that it can be bad weather,and must wear clothes and shoes for cold temperature, rain and wind. It is a relatively long walk to Trolltunga and all couples must walk - both ways. You must calculate 4 hours one way - that is 8 hours to walk. Everyone must also bring food and drinks for their own use.

We will be present from 2:00 PM on this day. We encourage people to start the trip early enough, and book parking up at P3 (Top.) It may be a good idea to have a small tent in the backpack.

Those who are getting married often wonder if they need to bring witnesses. It is not necessary - we who work for Ullensvang municipality up there can be witnesses in the ceremony.

The weddings are not set up in any order for each couple. We handle everything up there. and it works perfectly!

The number of couples can be limited.
